Our Lawyers

Stephen I. Cole, LL.B.
Originally from Mosher’s Corner outside Middleton, Stephen hung out his shingle as a sole practitioner in 1984 after obtaining his law degree from Dalhousie University.  Stephen’s undergraduate work was completed at the Universite  Sainte- Anne in Church Point, Nova Scotia in the bachelor of commerce program.  Stephen’s years of experience and renowned attention to detail are invaluable to Cole Sawler Law and its clients.

Over a career that has spanned 20 plus years, Stephen has practiced in the areas of wills and estate planning, family law, real estate and was a federal crown agent for the Department of Justice.  Stephen has been in “semi-retirement” for the last few years and has focused primarily on wills/estate planning and probate practice for our firm.  However, a recent return to the role of federal crown prosecutor will delay full retirement for the foreseeable future.

When not involved with the rigors of law practice, Stephen can be found enjoying his other passions on the golf course or tending to his Christmas trees and woodlots.   In the past, Stephen has been involved in various community organizations in the Middleton area, where he resides with his wife and two children.

Craig G. Sawler, LL.B.
Craig is a native of the Middleton area and after completing undergraduate work at Saint Mary's University in Halifax and obtaining his law degree from the University of New Brunswick, he was lured back to the Annapolis Valley to join Stephen Cole in forming Cole Sawler Law.

In his pre-law career days, Craig was as enthusiastic athlete, competing in various levels in hockey, soccer, badminton and volleyball. While the rigours of a busy law practice and an even busier family life have reduced his "free time", Craig continues to enjoy the outdoors by hiking, swimming and canoeing.

Craig practices in the area of real estate, wills and estate planning and corporate/business law. Focussing on only a few specific areas has allowed Craig to develop particular expertise to assist clients in developing creative approaches and solutions to their legal issues.

Craig graduated from the University of New Brunswick with his law degree in 1997 and was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in June 1998. Craig has always been committed to causes which improve and strengthen the local community and is involved in numerous organizations in the Valley, including the Middleton Rotary Club, local sport associations and a past director with the Valley Restorative Justice program. Craig continues to find time to explore the great wide world outside of the law with the help of his wife and two young sons.
